Saint Francis of Assisi is a day to commemorate the life of St. Francis. St. Francis was born in Italy during the 12th century. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor and his love for animals. In Catholic Church’s, he is the Patron Saint of animals and the environment. Francis became a saint when he was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1226. Saint Francis of Assisi is celebrated each year in October.
