Saint Padre Pio

Saint Padre Pio in
Days to go:

The Observance of Saint Padre Pio honors the canonized Catholic friar known for his religious devotion, miraculous works, and the stigmata he visibly bore. It gives the opportunity to Catholics, and anyone moved by the saint's life story, to recognize his teachings, works, and strengthening faith.

Born as Francesco Forgione in 1887, the future Saint Padre Pio entered the Capuchin order at a young age and was ordained as a priest in 1910. He gained wide-spread recognition for his pious life, and following his death in 1968, his renown only grew. He was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2002, and is particularly known for the gifts of healing and prophecy, as well as for the stigmata - the miraculous bearing of Christ’s crucifixion wounds - which he carried for over 50 years.

Celebrated primarily in Catholic communities, the Observance of Saint Padre Pio includes mass services, prayer gatherings, and acts of charity reflecting his profound commitment to helping the needy. His teachings continue to provide guidance for numerous Catholics and believers worldwide. The saint's observance occurs yearly on September 23, marking the anniversary of his passing.
