National Redhead Day History

National Redhead Day seeks to show support for redheads. This day encourages redheads to be themselves and to feel happy about their unique hair color. National Redhead Day was started in 2015 by redhead sisters Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti.

The idea for this day came four years after their website, How to be a Redhead, was formed. The Vendetti sisters initially created the site to help fellow redheads discover their beauty. Eventually, National Redhead Day would be created as a way to help redheads all over the world find comfort in their red hair.

National Redhead Day is observed annually on November 5th.

  • Melanin is what determines skin, hair, and eye color. The types of melanin responsible for hair color are eumelanin and pheomelanin. Too much eumelanin makes hair color move more toward a brown pigment. Too little eumelanin makes hair appear more red. Your genetic make-up and the genes you inherited from your parents play a large part in how much melanin you will have.
