World Prematurity Day History

World Prematurity Day seeks to raise awareness about premature birth and the complications that can occur. A premature baby is one who is born too early, usually before 37 weeks. Premature birth can lead to health problems during development including physical and mental disabilities.

World Prematurity Day was founded in 2010 by several organizations: March of Dimes, LittleBigSouls, the National Preemie Foundation, and the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI). It is observed annually on November 17th.
