Louis Riel Day History
Louis Riel Day in the Canadian Province Manitoba commemorates the Canadian Politician and the Founder. Riel was also the leader of a native tribe called the Metis people of the Canadian prairies. He formed two rebellions against Canada in order to preserve the cultural rights of the native tribe. In the winter of 1869, Riel formed a government and presented Canada with a Bill of Rights. On May 12, 1870, the Bill of Rights became the Manitoba act which formed the province and protected French language rights.
