French Language Day History
French Language Day seeks to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity. This day recognizes the potential of languages and cultures to unite people and create spaces of solidarity and understanding. French is one of six official languages celebrated by the UN. The other five are, Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian, and Spanish.
French Language Day is a part of the United Nations Language Days which were introduced in 2010. It is observed annually on March 20th. This date commemorates the establishment of the International Organization of La Francophonie on March 20th, 1970.
