Food Day Canada History
Food Day Canada seeks to celebrate Canadian culinary arts and the industries that make them possible. This day aims to show appreciation for the agriculture and food sectors in Canada. It acknowledges the farmers, fishermen, producers, everyone who contributes to supplying food for Canadians. It is day in which only Canadian ingredients should be used to make meals.
Food Day Canada was established in 2003 by culinary pioneer Anita Stewart. It began as a response to the sanction of Canadian beef by the United States due to a case of mad cow disease in Alberta. Today, it is a celebration of Canadians and their food. This day is observed annually on the Saturday in August closest to Civic Holiday.
