  • According to americansunglass, sunglasses were invented about 2,000 years ago. The Inuit (eskimos) created snow goggles from animal bone, leather, and wood. There were small slits that allowed only the tiniest of light through. This effectively shielded the eyes from the blinding glare of sunlight reflected off the snow.
  • UV radiation can increase the chance of developing cataracts which are a form of eye damage. Cataracts harm the eyesight of millions of Americans and cost billions of dollars in medical care each year.
  • According to nationalsunglassesday, children typically receive up to 3 times the amount of annual sun exposure as adults. This exposure increases the likelihood of receiving UV eye damage as children’s eyes do not filter out UV rays as easily.
