International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development

In India, volunteering has been deeply ingrained in the culture for centuries, with individuals and groups supporting causes such as health, education, and poverty alleviation. Recently, Indian youth have shown a growing interest in national and international volunteer opportunities, thereby contributing to the accomplishment of the sustainable development goals in India and other countries.

In India, International Volunteer Day is celebrated through various events and initiatives, which include awareness campaigns, workshops, seminars, and drives on different social, environmental, and developmental issues. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, and academic institutions across the country organize events to honor the service of volunteers and encourage more individuals to participate in volunteer work. International Volunteer Day is observed annually on the 5th of December in India, coinciding with the global celebration of this observance.
