Republic Day History

Republic Day India seeks to commemorate the enactment of the Constitution of India on 26 January, 1950. The constitution laid out laws and became the governing document of India. India had only recently become independent from Britain in 1947. This constitution marked India’s independence as a state and solidified its status as a republic nation. Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first president of India on January 26, 1950.

Republic Day India is celebrated annually on 26 January. This date serves as a tribute to India's declaration of independence in 1930. This national holiday typically consists of military parades and is accompanied by a speech by the president of India.
