World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims Facts

The objectives of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in 2021 are:
1) Remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads
2) Acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services
3) Draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries
4) Advocate for better support for road traffic victims and victim families
5) Promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries
According to the U.N, road traffic deaths increased to over 1.3 million road traffic deaths in 2021. This has resulted in road traffic injuries becoming the leading killer of people aged 5-29 years old.
Most road traffic injuries in developing countries involve only one vehicle. According to the U.N, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists make up 54% of road traffic deaths in developing countries.
The theme for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in 2021 was ACT for LOW SPEEDS / ACT for LOW SPEED STREETS.
