Labour Day History

Labour Day seeks to celebrate the social and economic achievements of workers in Queensland. This day also commemorates the start of making 8-hour work days socially acceptable. Carpenter Samuel Parnell is credited for the establishment of 8-hour day shifts after he refused to work more than 8-hours in one day. Labour Day in Queensland has been celebrated on the first Monday in May since 1912.
