Slavery occurred for over 400 years and over 15 million human beings were victims of the slave trade. In 2015, a memorial entitled The Ark of Return, erected is a memorial to all victims of slavery at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade was established in 2007 by the UN. It is observed annually on March 25th.
