![]() Mexican Independence Day HistoryMexican Independence Day commemorates the day Mexico gained freedom from Spain. This holiday also encourages Mexicans around the world to celebrate their freedom, culture, and life. Spain ruled over Mexico for over 300 years until a priest named Father Hidalgo planned a revolution against the Spanish. Father Hidalgo planned for the revolt to start on October 2nd, 1810, but the Spanish found out, so he rescheduled to a sooner date September 15th, 1810. The conflict went on for 10 years before Mexico finally gained its independence. Mexican Independence Day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, and speeches each year on September 16th.
