In olden times it was said that daffodils bloom around the 1st of March in honour of Saint David, the patron saint of #Wales. Saint David's feast day is celebrated on this day, and coincides with the beginning of meteorological #spring. #DyddGŵylDewiHapus #StDavidsDay #1stMarch https://t.co/aeYMn6jyNG

Pussy willow catkins are beginning to break out!🐈
'Catkin' refers to its downy softness & comes from the Dutch 'katteken' (kitten) 🤍
In Japanese pussy willow has the nickname 'cat pillow.'

One of our scrub nurses gifted us with these Martenitsa’s today, a traditional gift on 1st March in Bulgaria to mark the start of spring.
You wear until 1st April when you tie to a blossoming branch for good luck.

A reminder to everyone tempted to start clearing their gardens for spring, please be aware of hedgehogs in hibernation under hedgerows, borders and untidy corners. Check before accidently unearthing a prickly friend.
Thankyou 🦔 https://t.co/DXsClR631T

Today sees the start of spring barley being drilled. So along with sheep and cattle I grow a mixture of wheat, barley, oilseed rape, maize etc. sheep and cattle are over wintered on arable fields to add manure to aid soil fertility and health. All part of the cycle. https://t.co/CdSbWckmrh
