I celebrated Oak Apple Day and Charles II's birthday (29 May 1630) in a pub just outside the gates of Chatsworth. I had a G&T, don't normally drink, but gotta #KeepItStuart!
Today is Oak Apple Day, marking the return of King Charles II on 29 May 1660, after exile in the Civil War. The "oak" comes from the time when he escaped the Roundheads by hiding in an oak tree near Boscobel House, Shropshire. A descendent of that tree still exists, shown here.
