On this day, 37 years ago, April 26, 1986, at 1.23 am, the worst nuclear disaster in history occurred: The #Chornobyl/#Chernobyl disaster. Unit 4 of Chornobyl NPP exploded. Today we remember and honor those who suffered and gave their lives to contain the catastrophe.

@RARohde @rahmstorf I’ll take carbon pollution over nuclear pollution (contamination) any day. There is nothing clean or safe about nuclear. The land’s contaminated by Chernobyl and Fukushima will be unsafe for generations?
Today is April 26, a day when Chernobyl NPP suffered a catastrophic meltdown. I reference Chernobyl a lot in my thesis, for it's on "usage on robotics in disasters". The main thing to take from Chernobyl story is that the event could've been avoided if there was safety culture.

International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day remembers the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986. A routine shut down was to be conducted however, due to structural errors with the reactor, a surge was created which resulted in one of the world’s largest chemical explosions.
